Sikh Religion Sikhism Will Now Taught Schools In Two American States Sikhism Booming America


Sikh Religion In America: More than 25 million students in America can now know about Sikhs. Two more states have voted in favor of new social studies standards that will include Sikhism or Sikhism in their school curriculum. Utah and Mississippi have recently become the 15th and 16th states in the US to include information about Sikhism, Sikh practices and traditions in their social studies curriculum. Will give 6,06,000 students in Utah and about 4,57,000 students in Mississippi the opportunity to learn about the Sikh community.

Contribution of Sikhs in American society for 125 years

Sikhism is the fifth largest religion in the world and the community has contributed to American society for more than 125 years in the fields of civil rights, politics, agriculture, engineering and medicine. Amrik Singh, a member of the Sikh community of Jackson, said these new standards provide an opportunity for our growing Sikh community in Mississippi to educate our neighbors about Sikhism and to better protect and identify Sikh students in the state.

Decision in the State Board of Education meeting

According to Sikh students, this step is one of the best ways to educate their teachers and classmates about the religion in an accurate and constitutional manner. The move comes after the Sikh Alliance made an initial request to include Sikhs in the new standards at a state board of education meeting in January this year.

In the coming months and years, the process of local adoption and implementation of more inclusive standards will begin, Harman Singh, senior education manager for the Sikh Alliance, said in a statement. The Sikh Coalition said it will continue to work closely with the Utah and Mississippi Department of Education during the process.
